AC Milan are interested in Japhet Tanganga, with the Italian champions seeking younger talents ahead of the new season.
According to Sky Sport Italia, AC Milan are looking to sign Japhet Tanganga and have held talks with the player’s agent over a move to San Siro. The versatile Tottenham star could be allowed to depart as Antonio Conte does not count on the 23-year-old in his plans.
Japhet Tanganga seemed destined to have a great campaign after putting in some impressive displays at the start of last season. Those included a top-notch performance on opening day as Tottenham beat Manchester City.
However, the Spurs’ academy graduate’s injury issues and a drastic loss in form made him somewhat out of favour. First under Nuno Espirito Santo, then with Antonio Conte, the versatile defensive star consistently saw far less game time than he would have anticipated.
Tanganga ended up making just 11 appearances in the Premier League, and Spurs are looking to offload him this summer.
Tanganga is attracting plenty of interest from Italy, and AC Milan are one of the clubs keen on the versatile defender. The 23-year-old’s primary position is in central defence, although he was utilised as a right wing-back in a few games last season.
With Spurs signing Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona, Tanganga’s future in considerable doubt. There is talk of interest from AC Milan in the 23-year-old, with the Italian champions holding talks with the player’s agent.
Milan like the idea of signing Tanganga for next season, although whether they seek a permanent or temporary transfer remains to be seen. The San Siro outfit remains keen on players of a younger age profile, and Tanganga’s versatility may end up suiting their requirements.
Spurs could decide to part ways with Tanganga after the impending signing of Djed Spence. Milan could be a brilliant option for the Tottenham ace, who might take a cue from former Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori, who has excelled since arriving in Italy.
Tanganga’s time at Tottenham looks to be over. Conte does not count him in his plans and could allow him to leave in search of regular playing time elsewhere. This could be a smart signing for Milan, similar to their investment in Tomori.
