Tyrell Malacia has officially completed his transfer from Feyenoord to Manchester United, with the Red Devils paying €15 million to sign him.
Premier League heavyweights Manchester United have made an official statement to confirm that they have signed Tyrell Malacia, who has signed a four-year contract at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have shelled out a base fee of €15 million to land the Dutch defender from Feyenoord, who could receive an additional €2 million in add-ons.
Tyrell Malacia spent his formative years with Feyenoord after joining his hometown club as a nine-year-old in 2008. The 22-year-old subsequently progressed through the ranks at the Dutch club before breaking into the first-team setup as an 18-year-old in December 2017.
The youngster has since come leaps and bounds, turning out 136 times for Feyenoord while also establishing a foothold in the Dutch national side. And after making considerable progress in the Netherlands, Malacia is set to continue his professional career at the club level at Manchester United.
Malacia emerged on Manchester United’s radar as soon as they confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new first-team manager. But the Red Devils have faced intense competition for the 22-year-old along the way, notably from Lyon, who once seemed destined to win the race to sign him.

But Manchester United did not throw in the towel and hit back with an offer that convinced Feyenoord to sell Malacia to them. And the Dutch defender quickly reached an agreement on personal terms with Manchester United, leaving Lyon in the lurch. The Premier League giants have now confirmed Malacia’s capture, officially announcing the completion of the deal.
Malacia expressed his delight at joining Manchester United, saying, “It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United. This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager [Erik ten Hag] leading us. I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.”
“Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt. I’ll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given to me and my family. None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for them. Now I’m ready to focus on the future with United, and help my new club achieve success.”
The official announcement does not mention the transfer fee, but according to The Athletic, Feyenoord will receive a base fee of €15 million for Malacia, who has signed a four-year contract with Manchester United. The Red Devils could also shell out €2 million in add-ons if they meet certain clauses.
