Serie A giants AC Milan have established fresh contact with Real Madrid over a move for Marco Asensio, valued at €25 million by Los Blancos.
According to a report by Italian publication La Repubblica, as relayed to Milan News, Real Madrid and AC Milan have been in contact again over a possible move for Marco Asensio in the summer transfer window. The Spanish forward wants to depart from the Santiago Bernabeu, with Los Blancos demanding €25 million for him.
Marco Asensio could be approaching the end of his topsy turvy stint with Real Madrid after being in and out of the starting lineups in the 2021/22 season. The Spaniard produced arguably his best campaign since joining Los Blancos from RCD Mallorca over half a dozen years ago, but he still has not cemented his place as an undisputed first-choice starter.
The 26-year-old found the back of the net 12 times from 42 appearances across all competitions, only Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. scoring more often. But with one year left on his Real Madrid contract and the 2022 FIFA World Cup a few months away, Asensio is keen on featuring prominently as a starter to be a pivotal figure for Spain. And AC Milan could hand him an escape route out of Real Madrid.
The interest from AC Milan stems from the inconsistencies of Samu Castillejo, Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias this past season. While the Rossoneri won the Serie A title in 2021/22, they will need more quality to remain perched at the summit of the Italian top-flight in the coming campaign.
While Castillejo is a peripheral figure, Milan will need to find an upgrade on Saelemaekers and Messias to bolster the attacking unit further, making Asensio a viable target. And recent reports have claimed that they recently tabled an offer to sign the Spanish international from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
AC Milan and Real Madrid have again been in contact, according to La Repubblica, with the newly-crowned Italian champions stepping up their efforts to sign Asensio. Reports have also suggested that the Serie A giants are the front-runners to land the 26-year-old wantaway forward this summer.
