Barcelona set to sign Raphinha in €60 million deal

Barcelona and Leeds United have reportedly reached an agreement over a €60 million move for Raphinha, a target for Chelsea and Newcastle United.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Raphinha will get his wish of joining Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Blaugrana will pay Leeds United €60 million in three instalments, with the Chelsea and Newcastle United target set to pocket €6 million per year net.

Raphinha has been involved in one of the most captivating transfer sagas of the ongoing window, with his destination changing every few days. While the 25-year-old has been steadfast that he wants to join his dream club Barcelona in the summer transfer window, the Blaugrana had stumbling blocks along the way due to their financial woes.

But after activating the first economic lever to ease the financial burden, the Catalan giants have been ready to launch the offensive to secure the services of Raphinha in the summer transfer window. So even though Chelsea seemed to have had the transfer wrapped up, subject to personal terms, they will have to go back to the drawing board to seek an alternative to Raphinha.

Barcelona’s last-ditch hijack of the Brazilian international has been successful, with the Blaugrana taking advantage of the player’s eagerness to move to Camp Nou. And according to Gerard Romero, Barcelona will pay Leeds United €60 million to prise Raphinha away from Elland Road.

The reputed Spanish journalist has also added that Newcastle United attempted to sign Raphinha with a late bid, which has not worked. The Magpies remain in the market for a wide-attacker, and they even held talks to sign Raphinha a few days ago.

But Raphinha never had any intention of joining Chelsea, Newcastle United or any other club not named Barcelona, even telling his agent Deco to stop his proposed transfer to Chelsea. Personal terms were never an issue for Barcelona, who will hand the 25-year-old a contract worth €6 million per year net.

Romero has also added that Barcelona will pay the €60 million fee to Leeds United in three instalments. As for Chelsea and Newcastle United, it will be interesting to see who the two Premier League clubs turn to as they continue their search for a new wide-attacker.
