According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Marco Asensio is the subject of interest from Liverpool over a possible move in the summer transfer window. Real Madrid will reportedly demand around €60 million to part ways with the Spanish forward.
Marco Asensio’s contract situation has made him one of the most highly sought-after players in Europe this summer. The 26-year-old will enter the final year of his Real Madrid deal in ten days, and his potential availability has alerted some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
The Spanish international was Real Madrid’s third-highest scorer this past season with 12 goals in 42 appearances. But Asensio’s status as a rotation option for Carlo Ancelotti has forced him to consider his future at the Santiago Bernabeu. Such a situation has captured the attention of Liverpool.
Liverpool initially identified Asensio as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah. And while the Reds are yet to resolve Salah’s future, the Real Madrid forward will likely take Sadio Mane’s spot in the first-team setup at Anfield if he moves to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Mane is on the verge of joining Bayern Munich this summer, and he will leave a gaping hole in the Liverpool attack with his departure. While the Merseyside giants have signed Darwin Nunez as a long-term solution for the offensive unit, they might need a wide-attacker, especially with the dependable Divock Origi also leaving next month.
Asensio is thus a viable target for Liverpool, with the Reds establishing contact with his entourage. But Liverpool will need to fend off stiff competition from several European bigwigs to secure his signature. At the same time, the Premier League heavyweights might have an uphill task to land Asensio, with Real Madrid slapping a €60 million price tag on him, according to Defensa Central.
