Liverpool are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Georginio Wijaldum on a loan deal this summer.
According to Irish Daily Star (h/t Paisley Gates), Liverpool are in the market for a new midfielder this summer. They have primarily set their sights on Jude Bellingham but are aware of the fact that the Borussia Dortmund superstar might not leave the club anytime soon.
It has forced Jurgen Klopp to consider other options in the market, with Georginio Wijnaldum emerging as one of the potential alternatives. The report suggests Liverpool are exploring the option to re-sign the Dutchman on a season-long loan deal.
After enjoying a successful spell at Anfield, Wijnaldum embarked on a new adventure last summer, joining PSG on a free transfer. It initially appeared to be a logical move as the Parisian juggernaut had signed the likes of Lionel Messi, Achraf Hakimi and Gianluigi Donnarumma, among many others. They were one of the favourites to lift the UEFA Champions League title.
However, Wijnaldum’s first season at the club has been nothing short of a disaster. The former Liverpool star struggled to make any impact whatsoever, falling behind the likes of Marco Verratti, Idrissa Gueye and Danilo Pereira in the pecking order at PSG.
The recent appointment of Luis Campos as the new PSG sporting director is unlikely to change Wijnaldum’s fortunes either. As such, the ex-Liverpool midfielder has been linked with a move away from the French capital, with a host of clubs interested in his services.
The likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United and West Ham United had entertained the prospect of signing the Dutchman in the past. But it appears the PSG midfielder is now on the radar of Liverpool, who are determined to sign a new midfielder ahead of the new season.
Having roped in Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho, the Reds have appeared quite active in the market this summer. The further addition of Wijnaldum could go a long way in shoring up their options n the middle of the park and help Liverpool compete with Manchester City for the league title.

Although Liverpool have also established contact with Marco Asensio, Wijnaldum could be a better option due to his experience in English football. The PSG midfielder is already familiar with Jurgen Klopp’s tactical setup and could instantly become a key first-team option at Anfield, making him an ideal coup for the Merseyside giants.
