Real Madrid line up talks with Jude Bellingham

La Liga champions Real Madrid reportedly want to initiate discussions with Jude Bellingham to beat Liverpool and Manchester United to his signature next year.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will look to open direct talks with Jude Bellingham to move quickly in the race to sign the English international in the summer transfer window of 2023. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is also a target for Liverpool and Manchester United.

Jude Bellingham has become one of the hottest properties in Europe after three years of producing world-class performances at the club level despite still being in his teens. The 18-year-old first burst into the limelight as a 16-year-old prodigy at Birmingham City FC before Borussia Dortmund snapped him up two years ago.

The English international has since become a pivotal figure for club and country, raking in ten goals and 18 assists in 90 outings for Borussia Dortmund. But Bellingham’s progress has captured the attention of some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe, with Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester United among the clubs keen on signing him.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the advancing years of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Modric, in particular, is in the twilight of his glittering career, and Real Madrid will need to phase out the veteran Croat to ensure a seamless transition to the next generation. And Bellingham has emerged as a viable target for the Merengues.

As for Liverpool, Bellingham could be a long-term successor for Thiago Alcantara, with the Spanish international on the wrong side of 30. In addition, James Milner is approaching the end of his career, meaning Liverpool will need to invest in a young midfielder. To that end, Liverpool will look to sign Bellingham in 2023.

Like Real Madrid and Liverpool, Manchester United will also prioritise signing Bellingham next year. While Paul Pogba departs from Old Trafford this year, a transfer in 2023 might make sense, considering Erik ten Hag will likely aim to reinforce other areas of his squad.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will look to beat the competition by opening direct talks with Bellingham over a possible transfer. But Chelsea and Manchester City might also rival Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid in the race to sign the English international.
