Fulham are interested in signing Bernd Leno, with the Arsenal man set for a departure from the club in the summer.
According to The Athletic, Fulham are keen on making a move for Bernd Leno, with the German stopper available for a transfer. The Arsenal star is set to enter the final year of his contract, and the Gunners are likely to cash in as he seeks a new club to play regularly.
Fulham are interested in signing a top goalkeeper to begin their transfer business. After winning the Championship, the Cottagers have returned to the Premier League and remain keen to stay in the top flight beyond next season.
Marco Silva is keen to use the transfer market correctly and sign players to improve the club’s chances of surviving relegation. One of his priorities is to bring a goalkeeper and now Fulham are reportedly keen on Bernd Leno and have begun talks with Arsenal to land the German international.
It’s a unique opportunity for the club, considering Leno’s quality. The stopper has tremendous experience in the Premier League and has been out of favour for no fault of his. The German has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers until last summer when Mikel Arteta decided to sign Aaron Ramsdale, who has since ousted the former Bayer Leverkusen man.
Leno performed admirably in cup competitions and four Premier League outings last season. However, for a goalkeeper of his standard, those many games are not enough as he harbours hopes of making it into the German squad for the World Cup.
There have been glances from Hertha Berlin recently, although the German would consider an opportunity with a Premier League side. Moreover, if the interested club comes from London, he could favour a move, as the keeper is settled in the city.
Arsenal are open to a sale and are seeking at least €10 million to part ways. Fulham could be in a good position to cough up the asking price and sign a Premier League quality keeper about to enter his prime. His arrival could allow Silva to focus on other areas of his squad as he seeks further reinforcements.
Leno would be a regular starter with Fulham ahead of Marek Rodak and Paulo Gazzaniga, who shared goalkeeping duties for the London club last season.
Leno has made 125 appearances for Arsenal since signing in 2018. However, the keeper has no future at the Emirates Stadium as he will not settle for the No. 2 role behind Ramsdale. The Gunners have already secured Matt Turner from the MLS to become their deputy stopper for next season, thus paving the way for the 30-year-old German to find a new club, which could be Fulham.
