Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly established fresh contact with Inter Milan for the transfer of defender Alessandro Bastoni, a target for Manchester United.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to step up their pursuit of Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni and have made fresh contact with the club. Spurs have been in the market for a central defender and have reportedly made Bastoni their priority signing. But they will have to fend off interest from Manchester United.
Both Tottenham and Manchester United are on the lookout for a left-footed defender and have identified Bastoni as the best option available on the market. The 23-year-old has grown into an important player for the Nerazzurri since debuting for them in the 2019/20 season.
Bastoni formed a crucial part of Antonio Conte’s Scudetto-winning Inter Milan squad, making 33 league appearances in the triumphant 2020/21 season. The Italian international continued to feature at the heart of the defence for Inter even after Conte’s departure. He was also part of the Italian national side that won the Euro 2020 last year.
In all, Bastoni forms a complete package and with the experience of playing against the toughest of opponents, the defender makes for an enticing prospect for interested parties. He has made a total of 118 appearances for the Italian giants across competitions, enough to convince Tottenham and Manchester United that he could be the solution to their defensive issues.
The two Premier League giants have identified another Serie A defender as a possible signing should they fail to land Bastoni in the summer. AC Milan’s Sven Botman is on their radar as well, with the Dutchman being a left-footed defender who matches the profile Tottenham and Manchester United have been looking for.

While Bastoni has two years remaining on his contract with Inter, Botman has three with Lille. But both the clubs could find holding on to their player difficult should Tottenham and Manchester United approach them with significant bids in the upcoming summer transfer window.
