Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to abandon their pursuit of Paulo Dybala owing to his hefty wage demands.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to back down from their pursuit of Paulo Dybala. The 28-year-old Argentine international has become a free agent this summer after running down his contract at Juventus, making him one of the most sought-after players in the market.
Dybala has been closely linked with a move to Tottenham, with Antonio Conte reportedly looking for attacking reinforcements. However, it appears the Lilywhites are ready to look elsewhere as they are not interested in meeting the attacker’s hefty £280,000 a week wage demands.
Formerly of Palermo, Dybala spent seven years at Juventus, during which he established himself as one of the most charismatic attackers in Europe. With 115 goals and 48 assists in less than 300 competitive appearances, the 28-year-old has a solid track record of performing in one of the best leagues in Europe.
Barring the time when Cristiano Ronaldo was in Turin, Dybala has consistently served as the main man upfront for Juventus, playing a key role in their success in the previous years. But after a seven-year association, the Argentine international is looking for a new challenge elsewhere.
Given his status as a free agent, Tottenham were predictably one of the clubs to express the desire to sign the 28-year-old Argentine international. The Lilywhites, after all, are in dire need of attacking reinforcements as they have appeared far too reliant on the services of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
The January addition of Dejan Kulusevski has added more bite to the Tottenham attack, but Antonio Conte is looking for a far more imposing forward upfront. That is where Dybala comes into the fray, but with the Argentine international asphyxiated with a high salary demand, Spurs may have to set their sights elsewhere.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for Yannick Carrasco, with the Atletico Madrid star offering experience and versatility to the table for Conte. Having him and new signing Ivan Perisic could indeed open up a myriad of tactical possibilities for the Italian mastermind next season.
As far as Dybala are concerned, the 28-year-old should find no difficulties finding a new suitor this coming summer. While Tottenham are not willing to meet his salary demands, clubs like Manchester United and Newcastle United have expressed the desire to sign the Argentine, with the latter even willing to hand him a lucrative contract ahead of the new season. But Inter Milan might be his next destination.
