Newcastle United have reportedly prepared an offer to sign Dutch forward Memphis Depay from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Memphis Depay is the subject of interest from Newcastle United over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Magpies are readying a bid to prise the Dutch forward away from Barcelona ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Memphis Depay joined Barcelona in a Bosman move last summer after a successful stint with Lyon. But the 28-year-old endured a topsy turvy ride at Camp Nou in the 2021/22 season, finishing as the Catalan club’s top scorer while enduring fitness issues. Depay also went in and out of the side in the campaign’s second half following the arrival of Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Depay amassed 13 goals and two assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. But the Dutch international faces an uncertain future at FC Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window as he will enter the final year of his contract in July. Such a situation has captured the attention of Newcastle United.
Newcastle United will continue their squad evolution in the summer transfer window after a successful January business helped them stave off relegation with aplomb. The Magpies are expected to bolster every department ahead of the 2022/23 season, but they will not necessarily splash the big bucks.
Depay has thus emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United to reinforce the offensive unit. The Barcelona forward could be the ideal player to complement the blistering Allan Saint-Maximin. But Depay might also be a solid option to replace the Frenchman if he departs from St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window.
Saint-Maximin is a target for Tottenham Hotspur, who could look to prise him away from Newcastle United. And the Tyneside giants are preparing an offer to sign the former Manchester United forward from Barcelona ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Recent reports have claimed that Barcelona will be open to cashing in on Depay, even though the Dutch international has asserted that he wants to stay for at least another season. But with Newcastle United stepping up their efforts to sign him, Depay could return to the Premier League this summer.
