Newcastle United are reportedly set to launch a £15 million offer for Dean Henderson and are confident of landing the Manchester United star in the summer.
According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are prepared to make their first move in their bid to land Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson by launching an offer worth £15 million.
Henderson, a product of the Manchester United academy, made his senior breakthrough for the club during the 2020/21 campaign after successful loan spells away at Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United. The 25-year-old ended the 2020/21 season as the first-choice ahead of David de Gea and was called up to the England squad for the UEFA Euro 2020.
However, an unfortunate injury saw him miss out on the Euros as well as the start of the 2021/22 campaign, allowing de Gea to reclaim his starting spot. The Spaniard was back to his best in the recently concluded campaign, which left Henderson warming the benches for the majority of the season.
Henderson played just three games all season and has grown frustrated over his lack of game-time. Manchester United blocked a loan exit for the Englishman during the January transfer window but could be willing to sanction a sale in the summer, with the club reportedly slapping a £40 million valuation on their academy ace.
And Newcastle United have emerged as the strongest suitors for Henderson heading into the summer. The Magpies had made an attempt to land the 25-year-old during January but had seen their efforts prove futile. However, Eddie Howe’s side remain keen on signing Henderson from Manchester United.
With Martin Dubravka well into his thirties and the Magpies open to sanctioning the sales of Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman in the summer, they will need a new goalkeeper to maintain the depth and quality within the squad. And Newcastle have made Henderson their priority target.
Recent reports had indicated that Newcastle could look to offer Karl Darlow as part of the deal, which appeals to Manchester United. However, as per the latest update from The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are planning to launch an offer of just £15 million for Henderson and are confident about signing him from the Mancunian outfit.
Considering that he still has three years left on his contract, Manchester United might not be willing to settle for such a low sum and could ask Newcastle United to shell out a bigger fee. However, the Tyneside outfit remain confident of their chances of signing Dean Henderson on a permanent transfer come summer.
