Barcelona consider offering Gavi in deal to sign Robert Lewandowski

Barcelona might reportedly have to offer teenage prodigy Gavi in the deal to sign priority target Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Gavi’s long-dragging contract talks could prompt Barcelona to offer him to Bayern Munich in the deal to sign Robert Lewandowski in the summer transfer window. The 17-year-old midfield prodigy is the subject of interest from the Bavarian giants.

Gavi joined Barcelona’s famed academy La Masia from Real Betis in July 2015 before making rapid progress through the ranks in the youth setup. And the 17-year-old secured early promotion to the first-team setup at Camp Nou amid Barcelona’s financial crisis, with Ronald Koeman handing him his debut at the onset of the 2021/22 season.

The teenage prodigy, now also a regular for the Spanish national side, turned out 47 times for FC Barcelona this season, chipping in with two goals and six assists. But Gavi’s contract situation has left the Blaugrana in a spot of bother, with his deal expiring next year. Such a situation has captured the attention of several high profile clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich.

The interest from Bayern Munich is somewhat surprising, considering Ryan Gravenberch is likely to replace Corentin Tolisso at the Allianz Arena. But Marcel Sabitzer also faces an uncertain future at the Bavarian club, prompting them to look at Gavi as a possible replacement.

Gavi is not the only Barcelona midfielder on Bayern Munich’s radar, with the Bundesliga champions also keen on signing Frenkie de Jong. And amid long-dragging contract renewal talks with the teenage prodigy, Barcelona might have to take a tough call.

According to the report, Barcelona could offer Gavi in the deal to sign Robert Lewandowski after Bayern Munich rejected their initial offer. The Polish striker has become Barcelona’s priority target for the summer transfer window, and he has himself confessed his desire to leave Bayern Munich this summer.

But the German heavyweights are insistent that they will not let Lewandowski leave in the summer transfer window. However, getting Gavi in the deal for the veteran striker could well turn Bayern Munich’s head, especially considering such a proposal would be better than receiving Memphis Depay from Barcelona.
