Premier League side Leeds United have reportedly agreed on personal terms with Red Bull Salzburg attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson.
Football Insider report that Leeds United have made a significant breakthrough in their pursuit of RB Salzburg’s attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson. After the Austrian side accepted their £25 million bid for the 21-year-old, the Premier League side have now agreed on personal terms with the American attacker, who is set to become their first summer signing.
Leeds escaped relegation to the EFL Championship in dramatic style on the final matchday of the recently-concluded Premier League season. The Whites defeated Brentford 2-1, while Burnley lost to Newcastle United to finish 18th and suffer the drop alongside Watford and Norwich City.
With Premier League status for next season secured, Jesse Marsch has turned his attention towards the upcoming summer transfer window. Leeds United are seemingly set to complete their first summer deal by signing Aaronson, who has now spent two seasons in Austria and was also linked with a January move to the Whites.
The 21-year-old does not have a release clause in his contract with Red Bull Salzburg, which facilitated Leeds’s approach. The Austrian giants have reportedly allowed the American attacker to undergo a medical with the Premier League side and finetune details of the move.
Aaronson impressed for Salzburg in his first-ever season in Europe after arriving from Philadelphia Union in the summer of 2020, scoring seven and assisting five goals. He made 41 appearances for them across competitions this season, including six in the UEFA Champions League, scoring six times and assisted 10 goals.
Thus, it comes as no surprise that Leeds were eager to close the deal quickly. The 21-year-old’s arrival will add some firepower to the Leeds attack, with the Whites likely to lose Raphinha to Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
Winger Jack Harrison is also attracting interest, which makes adding attacking reinforcements all the more crucial for the club. Leeds have also been linked with Club Brugge attacker Noa Lang and have reportedly made enquiries over the possibility of signing Takumi Minamino from Liverpool.
