Barcelona reportedly want a transfer fee of €25 million for Sergino Dest, who is facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou this summer.
According to MARCA, Sergino Dest could be on his way out of Barcelona in the upcoming transfer window, with the Catalans setting an asking price of €25 million for the right-back.
Dest joined Barcelona in the summer of 2020 from AFC Ajax in a deal worth €21 million plus add-ons. The 21-year-old has had a disappointing spell at Camp Nou thus far, marred by inconsistent performances and injury woes. The USMNT star had fallen out of favour under Xavi Hernandez soon after the latter took over the reins as manager.
However, in recent months, Dest was able to show some major improvements in his performance levels, which had forced Xavi to consider keeping the former Ajax ace around at the club. But, the club’s financial situation is such that some major sales need to be made over the course of the summer window.
Dest, given his age and potential, can be a player in demand in the market, and Barcelona could be open to the possibility of cashing in on him. They already have a plethora of options in the right-back position, which would soften the blow of the USMNT star’s potential departure at the end of the season.
Indeed, Dani Alves, whose current contract expires at the end of the season, is on the verge of signing a new short-term extension with Barcelona until the end of this year. Meanwhile, versatile star Sergi Roberto is also set to pen a new one-year extension at Camp Nou, adding another option for Barcelona at right-back.
On top of that, the Catalan heavyweights are also pushing to sign Chelsea captain and defender Cesar Azpilicueta, who would be another solution at right-back for Barcelona. So, all things considered, Dest could be allowed to leave in the summer.
However, as per the report, Barcelona want interested parties to shell out at least €25 million for the United States defender, which would be close to what the Catalans paid for him (including bonuses). Recent reports had indicated that Dest has been offered to Manchester United, while there are other interested parties in the 21-year-old. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the young American.
