La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly closely monitoring the situation of German under-21 international Youssoufa Moukoko, term the “new Eto’o”.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Youssoufa Moukoko is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The German under-21 international could leave Borussia Dortmund once the ongoing campaign ends.
Youssoufa Moukoko is widely regarded as one of the most promising young attackers in Europe, with the teenage prodigy making quite an impression in Borussia Dortmund’s youth setup over the years. The 17-year-old’s exploits have also helped him earn plaudits and draw comparison with Samuel Eto’o.
Such was the promise shown by Moukoko in his youth days that the Bundesliga amended a rule for a player’s age to make their league debut. And the German under-21 international made his Dortmund bow soon after, although he has barely been a regular for the Black and Yellows.
The 17-year-old has garnered only 475 minutes of game-times across 23 outings thus far, mostly making appearances off the bench. And with Moukoko’s contract running out next year, he could leave Dortmund in the summer transfer window, with his situation capturing the attention of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid might need to invest in a backup striker in the summer transfer window, with Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz expected to depart from the Santiago Bernabeu. Interestingly, Jovic has been linked with Dortmund, with the Bundesliga giants recently offered the chance to sign the Real Madrid outcast.
Moukoko is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, even though he will initially play second-fiddle to Karim Benzema. But with Benzema well into his thirties, Moukoko’s game-time will gradually increase before he becomes the first-choice striker for Los Blancos once Benzema calls time on his stint at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid had been linked with Moukoko’s Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland. But the Norwegian international is on the brink of joining Manchester City. So it is not too surprising that Real Madrid could launch the offensive for Moukoko, especially if the German under-21 international decides to leave Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
