Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in the signature of Liverpool winger Sadio Mane.
According to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich are interested in getting Liverpool winger Sadio Mane on board this summer. The club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic met the Senegal international’s agent this weekend but the two clubs are yet to discuss a possible move.
Mane will have just a year remaining on his contract after the ongoing season and talks over an extension have not gone on smoothly. Reports suggest that the 30-year-old is unhappy that the Reds have prioritised Mohamed Salah’s deal, whose contract is set to run down in 2023 as well.
The Senegalese has been in fine form this season, scoring 21 goals in 47 appearances across competitions for the Reds. Mane has been one of the most crucial players for Liverpool, who are fighting on all possible fronts this season and chasing an unprecedented quadruple.
The winger has been a mainstay in the Reds’ frontline since joining them from Southampton in 2016. He has since made 265 appearances for the club, scoring 118 and assisting 47 goals. Mane was linked with a move to Real Madrid in 2019 before signing a contract extension with Liverpool. Los Blancos have been linked with the 30-year-old once again, along with arch-rivals Barcelona.
Now Bayern Munich have also entered the fray for the signing of the 30-year-old Senegalese speedster. The German champions’ sporting director recently admitted that the club are in the market for a ‘big-name signing’.
“Let yourself be surprised. We have to see what is possible and what is not. We have creative ideas,” Salihamidzic said following Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Stuttgart on Sunday.
Liverpool, who are still active in the FA Cup, Premier League and the Champions League, after having won the Carabao Cup earlier this season did not comment to Sky’s queries on the matter. The Reds will face Chelsea in the FA Cup final this Saturday, and Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 28.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are also in contention for the Premier League title with three points separating them and top-placed Manchester City with three matches left in the league. It remains to be seen whether they manage a clean sweep of trophies this season or fall short.
As for the situation surrounding Mane, Liverpool will have to tie him down to a new contract at the earliest or risk the prospect of losing him in the summer as interest in the 30-year-old continues to grow.
