Tottenham battle Arsenal, Manchester United, Barcelona for Ruben Neves

Tottenham are reportedly involved in a four-way tussle with Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona for Wolves star Ruben Neves.

According to 90min, Tottenham Hotspur are among four clubs keeping a keen eye on Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves.

The Portuguese international is a stalwart at the Molineux and has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League. There is, however, only so much he can achieve at Wolves and the time might be ripe for a change in scenery.

At 25, Neves is at the right age to take the next step in his career. There is no shortage of takers as Arsenal, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also in the fray. All four clubs are in a state of rebuild and could do with bringing in top quality players.

While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur offer Tottenham enough balance in midfield, the team could do with more impetus in the attacking third. Neves is just the player to do that and is an able carrier of the ball while also proving to be a threat from set-pieces.

The same can be said for Manchester United, who are also set for a midfield overhaul. Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic will move on while Fred and Scott McTominay lack that X-factor. A player with Neves’ traits could thrive under the incoming Erik ten Hag, who is adept at nurturing talents.

Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal are also in the fray for the 25-year-old. He could be the perfect foil for Thomas Partey and would add something different to the Gunners’ midfield. The Portuguese international could be the next key piece in Mikel Arteta’s jigsaw at the Emirates.

Neves is also drawing interest from abroad, with Barcelona showing keenness. The Blaugrana are also restructuring their squad and could use a player or two to add more quality in midfield as Sergio Busquets is entering the final phase of his career. A legendary player in his day, manager Xavi Hernandez could help the 25-year-old take the next step in his development.

Neves, for his part, is ready to move on and has already intimated the same to Wolves. Given that there are a plethora of clubs keen on him, the midfielder can take his pick. It will be interesting to see where the Portuguese international ends up come summer.
