Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham as a possible replacement for Harry Kane.
According to The Athletic, AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham has emerged as a potential Harry Kane replacement for Tottenham Hotspur should the England captain decide to move on. The report claims that Benfica’s Darwin Nunez is also on their list.
Harry Kane’s hunger to win silverware brought him on the verge of leaving Tottenham last summer. Manchester City were primed to complete his signing, but Daniel Levy refused to enter into negotiations for the club superstar. One year from the saga, Kane is again the subject of transfer interest from a Manchester-based club, this time the red half.
The Red Devils, in fact, have been long-standing admirers of the 29-year-old and have even tried to sign him in the past. But a move never materialized. Manchester United’s former executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward set the wheels rolling in what could culminate in Kane joining the most successful Premier League club.
Woodward had alerted Levy of Manchester United’s interest in Kane last summer but clarified that a possible bid will have to wait for another year as the Red Devils were involved in negotiations for Jadon Sancho. Now the need for a centre-forward signing is more than ever at the club with as many as three forwards possibly leaving the club this summer.
And with two years remaining on Kane’s contract after this season, the summer window seems to be the perfect time for the England international to move on from Spurs. Just in case the centre-forward moves to Manchester United, Tottenham are lining up replacements.
Tammy Abraham, who moved to Roma in the last summer transfer window from Chelsea, could be in line for an immediate England return. Abraham has impressed for Roma this season, scoring 15 Serie A goals in 29 matches. Manchester United, too, have reportedly identified the England international as a possible signing should they fail to land Kane this summer.
The former Chelsea ace has been thriving under Jose Mourinho in Italy and has shown that he can make a difference at the highest level on a consistent basis. Should Kane end up leaving Tottenham, he could be a viable replacement to fill in the shoes of his England teammate. It remains to be seen how this transfer saga eventually pans out, but expect even more twists and turns in it.
