AS Roma enter race to sign Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos

AS Roma have joined Inter Milan and Real Betis in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos in the summer transfer window.

According to Fichajes, Real Madrid outcast Dani Ceballos has emerged as a summer transfer target for Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma. The Spanish midfielder is also on the radars of Inter Milan and Real Betis.

Ceballos signed for Real Madrid from Real Betis in the summer of 2017 but struggled for game-time in his first couple of seasons. The 25-year-old left Los Blancos in 2019, joining Arsenal on loan. He spent two years at the Emirates Stadium before returning to Madrid last year. An injury derailed his chances of securing an exit in the summer of 2021.

Having recently recovered completely, he has made seven appearances this season. However, Ceballos is expected to be on his way out of Real Madrid in the upcoming summer transfer window. There is no shortage of interest in the Spanish international, with former club Real Betis keen on signing him. Inter Milan, too, have expressed an interest in his services, with AS Roma also entering the fray.

Roma are in the market for new midfielders as manager Jose Mourinho looks to shake things up ahead of the next season. Jordan Veretout is expected to leave the club, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United interested in signing him. Question marks remain on the future of Henrikh Mkhitaryan as well, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

So, there is a need for a new midfielder at Stadio Olimpico in the summer, even though Roma are trying to sign Sergio Oliveira on a permanent transfer after he has impressed since arriving on loan in January.

Mourinho has rekindled his interest in Arsenal mainstay Granit Xhaka. But, he and Roma are keeping their options open if the Gunners’ star does not arrive in the summer. To that end, Real Madrid ace Dani Ceballos has been identified as a target to replenish the club’s midfield department.

Ceballos’ current contract with Real Madrid stands to expire in 2023. So, the time is right for Los Blancos to part ways with him, or they run the risk of losing him for nothing in 2023. An exit seems like a strong possibility, but it remains to be seen where the 25-year-old ends up with several clubs lining up to sign him.
