West Ham United are interested in Gaetan Coucke as David Moyes eyes a new goalkeeper for the team’s future.
According to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad, KV Mechelen goalkeeper Gaetan Coucke is on the radar of West Ham United, who could plot a move for the 23-year-old in the summer window. There is growing space in the Hammers’ squad for goalkeepers, with David Moyes expected to bring in at least two players in the position.
A new centre-back and a striker could also be on the agenda for the east London giants in the summer. They are already linked with several important names, such as Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri and Benfica’s Darwin Nunez. However, they also need reinforcements in the goalkeeping department.
Current No. 1 Lukasz Fabianski has a deal until the end of the season, although his impressive performances could prompt Moyes to extend his stay. Meanwhile, PSG loanee Alphonse Areola will be leaving after acting as a deputy to Fabianski all season. So at least one new goalkeeper is expected to arrive at the London Stadium.
There is interest in KV Mechelen keeper Gaetan Coucke, and West Ham could move for the Belgian in the summer. Since moving to the club from KRC Genk in 2020, the 23-year-old shot-stopper has seen a rapid rise in reputation on the back of impressive performances. He was recently called up to the Belgian national team squad as well.
He has a contract with KV Mechelen until 2023, although the club have an option to extend the deal by a year. Currently valued at around €750,000, the Belgian side will hope to earn a bit more for their rising star. If talks go well, the Hammers could agree on a deal, which could certainly prove to be a bargain considering the finances involved.
West Ham might not necessarily view Gaetan Coucke as a replacement for Fabianski, although he could certainly replace Areola in the coming season.
