Real Madrid have reportedly been alerted by the development surrounding Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, who is considering his future at the club.
According to Fichajes, wantaway Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has popped up on the radars of Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.
A product of the Manchester United academy, Rashford has been part of the first-team setup at Old Trafford for six years now and has racked up close to 300 appearances for the Red Devils, notching up a return of 93 goals and 58 assists. The 24-year-old has also been capped 46 times by the England national team, for whom he has netted 12 strikes.
Widely regarded as the present and the future of this Manchester United side, Rashford has endured a difficult 2021/22 season. After missing the first few months of the campaign with an injury, the forward has struggled to reproduce his best form since returning to action. So far, he has featured 24 times in all competitions, scoring just five times.
As a result, Rashford has seen his game-time reduce drastically under interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who has preferred to use the three-man frontline of Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Elanga in recent weeks. Given the sudden decline in his minutes, the Manchester United academy ace has grown frustrated and is now considering leaving the club at the end of the season.
This development has seemingly alerted Real Madrid, who are now assessing the possibility of making a play for Rashford’s signing in the summer. It is no secret that Los Blancos are in the market for attacking reinforcements and have identified Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland as their top targets for the summer.
While there is a good chance that Mbappe will arrive on a free transfer, the same cannot be said of Haaland, who is also being courted by a host of other clubs, including Manchester City and Barcelona. So, Real Madrid would do well by identifying alternative options for the Norwegian international if he opts to move elsewhere.
Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak is believed to be under consideration at the Bernabeu. But the sudden development of the Rashford situation has caught the eyes of the current La Liga leaders, with a move now being considered.
However, a transfer might not be financially feasible for the Merengues. As per the report, Rashford’s market value stands at €85 million, but Manchester United could demand a figure of around €100-120 million for the England international given as they can extend his current contract, which expires in 2023, by another year. But Real Madrid would be unwilling to stretch beyond €60 million.
So, it now remains to be seen what the future holds for the 24-year-old England international come summer. As of now, Rashford is unhappy with his situation at Manchester United and is likely to attract more and more interest as the days go by.
