AS Roma have rekindled their interest in Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot, with Jose Mourinho looking to reunite with his compatriot.
According to Calciomercato, AS Roma are ready to revive their pursuit of Diogo Dalot with a summer move in the works. The Serie A giants had been keen to sign the Portuguese international before only for him to stay put at Manchester United.
Dalot has been a divisive figure this season at Manchester United despite making a decent impression every now and then. Starting behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the start of the season, the right-back has been afforded regular game time since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer departed from the club.
At one point, Dalot seemed like Ralf Rangnick’s preferred choice at right-back, playing in most games under the German tactician. However, the interim manager has not picked the Portuguese international in the last three games, which has cast doubt over his long-term future.
The right-back position at Manchester United is considered a problem area, with summer plans reportedly in place to address the issue. It has been claimed that either Dalot or Wan-Bissaka could be sold in the next window, with the Red Devils already lining up replacements for the right-back slot.
Southampton’s Tino Livramento is linked with a move, although it won’t be easy to sign the former Chelsea starlet. Meanwhile, among Dalot and Wan-Bissaka, it may seem like the former is more likely to depart, considering his contract situation at Old Trafford.
Dalot’s current deal expires in 2023, which could prompt Manchester United to make a swift decision to sell him in the summer as the full-back garners tremendous interest, particularly from Italy. He did spend the previous season with AC Milan and put in consistent, impressive displays for the San Siro outfit. The Rossoneri were keen on a permanent transfer, only for Solskjaer to keep the former FC Porto ace.
Dalot is also wanted by Fiorentina, although AS Roma are ready to rekindle their interest in the right-back. The club’s general manager Tiago Pinto rates the full-back highly and could plan a summer move for the Portuguese, to reunite him with Jose Mourinho, who signed the defender at Manchester United.
A return to Italy could appeal to Dalot, who has found life difficult in England since his arrival. It remains to be seen how much more he features between now and the end of the season, which could determine whether Manchester United will sell him or extend his deal.
