Manchester United are ready to offload right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer transfer window after he fell down the pecking order under interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s Old Trafford future looks to be in serious doubt, according to TEAMtalk, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick putting the former Crystal Palace starlet on the Red Devils’ summer outgoings transfer list after a spate of dismal performances.
With Rangnick set to take up the advisory role with United hierarchy at the end of the season, the club could be in for a massive restructure from top to bottom. Despite all the speculation over his future, the German will still have a say over incomings and outgoings.
Many high-profile exits are expected, with Rangnick holding reservations about the futures of several star players, including Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial. And, underperforming right-back Wan-Bissaka could be the first in line to be axed by the former RB Leipzig boss come summer.
The 24-year-old was signed from Crystal Palace in 2019 for a fee reported to be around £50 million and was expected to solve a long-running right-back problem for the Red Devils. He was initially a big hit at Old Trafford, with his one-on-one defending and tackling earning him the nickname ‘Spider’.
He cemented himself as a regular starter under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He even attempted the most tackles in the Premier League during his debut season with Man United (138). However, his development has stalled, and he is now viewed as a liability when United have control of possession and are on the attack. His positional play defensively has often come under criticism this term, and the less said about his crossing ability, the better.
As a result, Rangnick has preferred to utilise Diogo Dalot over the Englishman. The Portugal international has performed admirably and has been more clinical and consistent in the attacking third in terms of delivering chances for the forward players. A new contract for the Portuguese full-back could be on the cards, which further signals that Wan-Bissaka is no longer a guaranteed starter.
With the 2022 World Cup coming up later this year, the player recognises that he must play regularly in order to be considered for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, with Trent Alexander Arnold, Reece James, Kyle Walker, and Kieran Trippier all ahead of him in that particular position.
Furthermore, it has been suggested that Manchester United are already contemplating possible replacements for Wan-Bissaka moving forward. The Old Trafford outfit have been strongly linked with Brighton star Tariq Lamptey recently, while Southampton hotshot Tino Livramento is also on their radars.
As things stand, Wan-Bissaka is contracted at Old Trafford until 2024. But the Red Devils will look to cut their losses and facilitate a summer sale. With Rangnick giving the green light for the right-back’s summer departure, it will be intriguing to see where the 24-year-old will be plying his trade next season, especially after recent shock links to European giants Bayern Munich.
