AC Milan are reportedly considering a summer move for Liverpool forward Divock Origi.
According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, AC Milan are in the market for a centre-forward and have identified Liverpool star Divock Origi as a potential signing. The Italian giants also have the likes of Andrea Belotti and Andrej Kramaric on their list.
Origi started his career with the KRC Genk youth team and was snapped up by Lille in 2011. After three seasons with the French side across different age groups, the forward joined Liverpool in a deal worth €12 million in 2014 before being sent back on a season-long loan to Lille.
The Belgium international couldn’t stamp his authority at Anfield and has been a squad player throughout his Liverpool spell. He went on another season-long loan to Wolfsburg in 2017 and has been with the Reds since his return from Germany.
In seven years with the Premier League giants, Origi has made 171 appearances in all competitions, scoring 40 goals and providing 17 assists. Though he couldn’t quite cement his spot in the Liverpool squad, he became a cult hero among the fans after scoring in crucial games for the Reds, the most important of which came in the 2019 UEFA Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.
With Sadio Mane, Firmino and Mohamed Salah leading the club’s attacking line and the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz providing even more depth to their offence, Origi has found chances hard to come by. He has made just 14 appearances for the Reds this season, scoring five times. The 26-year-old’s contract with the club expires after the current season, and he will be free to join any club on a Bosman transfer.
AC Milan have emerged as potential suitors for Origi, but Galetti has suggested that the Italian side would prefer signing a young forward with plenty of potential. However, they will evaluate the prospect of signing Origi, along with the possibility of luring Belotti or Kramaric to the club.
Milan currently have Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Olivier Giroud and Marko Lazetic as their three centre-forward options. Ibrahimovic and Giroud are well past their best and the Rossoneri will need young legs if they are to mount a title challenge next season as well. Origi could be a handy addition on a free transfer, but they will likely face competition from title rivals Napoli for the Liverpool star’s signing.
