Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are reportedly vying for the signature of Ferland Mendy, who could leave Real Madrid in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are interested in signing Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid. The French defender could depart the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window, with Los Blancos scouring the market for a left-back.
Ferland Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon in July 2019, arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu as a possible long-term successor for Marcelo. The 26-year-old replaced the veteran Brazilian left-back in the starting lineup almost immediately and has been Real Madrid’s first-choice left-back for the last two and a half years.
To date, the French international has turned out 94 times for Real Madrid, chipping in with four goals and six assists in the process. But Mendy could leave the Spanish club in the summer transfer window amid mounting uncertainty over his future. The prospect of snapping up the player has captured the attention of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
The interest from Juventus stems from the inconsistencies of Alex Sandro in the last few years, with the Brazilian international enduring a sharp decline in form. As a result, Massimiliano Allegri has had to deploy Mattia De Sciglio as a makeshift left-back on several occasions this season, especially with Luca Pellegrini not being impressive enough.
The Serie A giants thus need to invest in a left-back in the summer transfer window, with Mendy emerging as a viable target. But Juventus will need to fend off stiff competition from PSG to sign the 26-year-old defender from Real Madrid.
PSG’s decision to pursue Mendy is somewhat surprising, considering Nuno Mendes will likely complete a permanent move to Parc des Princes in the summer transfer window. Unless Les Parisiens offload both Juan Bernat and Layvin Kurzawa, it is hard to see how Mendy will fit into the squad.
For now, it looks like Real Madrid could part ways with Mendy in the summer transfer window. The Merengues are scouring the market for a left-back, with Sergio Reguilon, Angelino, and Raphael Guerreiro among the defenders linked with them.
