Premier League giants Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in West Ham United’s Ben Johnson ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Fichajes, there is significant interest in West Ham defender Ben johnson from Premier League giants Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal. The right-back’s current contract expires in the summer, although the Hammers are reported to have triggered a two-year extension option.
Ben Johnson caught the eye of many clubs at the start of the season with some impressive performances for West Ham. He was deputising for Vladimir Coufal and impressed against some big teams as the Hammers chased a Champions League spot.
While he has played fewer minutes since Coufal’s return, niggling injuries have also played a part in keeping him away from the team. However, in the summer, it could be decision-making time for the young right-back amid interest from some of the top clubs in England.
The Hammers reportedly had the option of extending his stay by a further two years, which they are believed to have activated. Nonetheless, several clubs are vying for his signature including Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, with each club having a requirement in the area.
The North London sides are interested in Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey as well, although the attacking full-back will prove costly. Spurs are also interested in Djed Spence, who could become a top target if other players become unavailable.
Antonio Conte wants a reliable option in the position, having been disappointed with Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty. Johnson’s attacking profile makes him a suitable player for Spurs, who may make an approach for him in the summer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal already have Takehiro Tomiyasu as the undisputed starter at right-back. But with Cedric Soares likely to leave in the summer, a second choice right-back is needed. It would be similar to the role Johnson takes up at West Ham, although he can challenge the Japan international in the future.
Finally, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would like to bring Johnson in as an alternative to Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Reds have sometimes faced problems defensively in certain games, which could be solved by signing the West Ham full-back. Furthermore with Joe Gomez and Neco Williams linked with exits, the Reds could use a player like Johnson to add depth to the squad.
As things stand, the Hammers have reportedly extended his contract for two more years but could consider offers if they are financially suitable. From the list of teams interested, only Tottenham may guarantee him more game time, although chances are that the trio will have to look elsewhere.
