Transfer Roundup: Conte Wants To Bring Lukaku Back To Chelsea, Liverpool Planning £40m Swoop For Arsenal Duo

Antonio Conte, who is heavily tipped to join Chelsea FC after Euro 2016, has reportedly been impressed by Romelu Lukaku and is likely to make the Everton striker his top priority, if he were to take over at the West London club later this year.

Conte, who is the head coach of the Italian national team at the moment, has confirmed that he will leave his post in the summer, and has been strongly linked to Chelsea.

According to the Sun, the Italian wants to bring Lukaku back to Chelsea in the summer, in order to boost the Blues’ attack.

Chelsea could face stiff competition for the Belgian striker from Premier League rivals Manchester United, who are also facing their own problems up front. Interestingly, Lukaku’s father has said that he wants his son to play for the Red Devils. However, Lukaku himself has played down these comments, saying that it is just his father’s point of view and that he would like to get regular action in the Champions League.

As things stand, neither Chelsea, nor Manchester United can promise him Champions League football next season.

Liverpool on alert, as Ter Stegen hints at Barcelona exit

Bayer 04 Leverkusen vs FC Barcelona
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is not too pleased with his current situation at FC Barcelona, and may be looking for a move away from the Catalan capital in the summer transfer window.

The German plays second string to Chilean custodian Claudio Bravo at Barcelona, and is not too happy with his situation at the club. Ter Stegen does get to play in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey matches, but the 23-year-old wants to be a regular in Barcelona’s starting XI in the La Liga matches.

“I want to take the next step and to play more. So the situation is clear: If nothing changes, we have to talk,” said Ter Stegen in an interview with German outlet TZ. “In the long run, these 25 games per season are not enough for me. The decision is made by the coach. I hope that the quality I’ve shown recently is rewarded.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be a big admirer of Ter Stegen, and reportedly wants to bring him to the Merseyside club. With current Reds’ no.1 Simon Mignolet repeatedly underperforming, there have been talks of Liverpool making a move for Ter Stegen. These comments by the German goalkeeper will certainly put the Reds on alert, as the summer transfer window approaches.

Manchester City, Liverpool must pay £22m for Gundogan

Borussia Dortmund vs FC Bayern Munich
Both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are in for a tug of war over Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, with Jonathan Northcroft of the Sunday Times [via 90min] reporting that they would have to shell out £22 million for the German.

Liverpool have long been linked with a move for Gundogan, as manager Klopp shares a good relationship with the player. The Reds will reportedly try to use this as a bait to draw Gundogan to Anfield.  Also, Gundogan has excelled under Klopp’s system at Dortmund, which could guarantee some degree of success for the 25-year-old.

However, Pep Guardiola, who has announced that he will be joining Manchester City at the start of the next season, is also said to be interested in Gundogan, having observed the Dortmund midfielder closely in the Bundesliga. In this context, Northcroft points out that Manchester City has much greater monetary power over Liverpool, to attract Gundogan to the Etihad Stadium.

Bayern Munich looking at Bellerin as possible Lahm replacement

Stoke City v Arsenal
The Bavarians are preparing for the departure of long-serving fullback Philipp Lahm, and are reportedly looking at Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin as a possible replacement.

Lahm had retired from international football after winning the 2014 World Cup with German. Now that he is 32 years old, the Bavarians might need to look at the possibility of the former Germany captain drawing the curtains on his career.

Bellerin has significantly impressed the top bosses at Bayern, and is being considered as one of the options to replace the World Cup winner at the club, according to Sport1.

However, Barcelona are also said to be interested in Bellerin, who played at La Masia academy, before moving to Arsenal. A tug of war could be on the cards between the two clubs.

With Jurgen Klopp reportedly looking to overhaul his squad in the summer transfer window, Liverpool are preparing themselves for a £40 million double swoop of Arsenal players Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wojciech Szczesny.

Although they have shown flashes of brilliance this season (in matches against Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City), Liverpool have been inconsistent, with losses against teams like Southampton and West Ham.

Thus, the Reds are looking at the Arsenal duo of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Szczesny as possible summer signings, according to Football Insider.

Chamberlain has so far failed to establish himself as a regular in the Arsenal lineup, while the arrival of goalkeeper Petr Cech has pushed Szczesny down the pecking order at the Emirates.
