Mohamed Salah refuses to comment on Liverpool contract situation

Mohamed Salah has refused to comment on his contract situation at Liverpool ahead of an important clash against Manchester City.

Liverpool are set to face a potential title decider when they take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. A win for the Reds could see them pip the defending champions and move on top of the Premier League standings.

One of the players worth keeping an eye on in this riveting encounter is Mohamed Salah. Heading into this contest as the league’s top goalscorer, the Egyptian’s contributions in the final third could go a long way in shaping Liverpool’s fate in this clash and the title race.

Speaking ahead of the game, Salah was asked to comment about his contract situation at Anfield. However, the forward has refused to offer any insights and believes it is not the right time to comment on such things. When asked about what he could say about his contract situation at Liverpool, Salah said, “Well not much but honestly, but what I can say is there many things people don’t know about it.”

“I can’t be selfish and talk about my situation. We are in the most important period for the team so I have to just talk about the team, focus on what is coming with the team and that is the most important thing. That is all I can say. Hopefully we are going to be more optimistic and see what is going to happen,” Salah told Sky Sports.

Salah’s current deal at Anfield expires at the end of next season. There are reports that suggest the Liverpool talisman is holding out for a lucrative contract that would make him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League. Liverpool have appeared reluctant in meeting his demands so far, despite pundits like Arsene Wenger urging the Reds to do so.

When asked if he was confident a new contract would be sorted out at Liverpool, he added, “I can’t say yes, I can’t say no but I have said many times before about what I want. But again, I can’t go deep into my contract now because it is a really sensitive situation.”

“The team need to win and I can’t be just going into the news and just talking about my contract. I just focus with the team, and that is it,” he added.

Mohamed Salah has been closely linked with a move to Real Madrid, who are closely monitoring his situation at Anfield. The Spanish giants are expected to pounce on the opportunity of signing the Egyptian in the summer, although the player is still favoured to pen a new deal with Liverpool that could guarantee his future at Anfield at least for a few more years.
