Paul Robinson has backed Liverpool to sign Youri Tielemans instead of going all out on Yves Bissouma in January.
During an interview with Football Insider, Paul Robinson has offered his thoughts on Liverpool’s reported pursuit of Yves Bissouma. The former Leeds United goalkeeper believes that the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder does not fit the bill at Anfield and the Reds should instead set their sights on Youri Tielemans.
Robinson’s comments come in the aftermath of Bissouma’s official club interview, where the midfielder explained his decision to remain at Amex Stadium in the summer. But at the same time, he did voice his desire to play for a bigger club in the future, especially competing in the UEFA Champions League.
It propelled rumours surrounding Bissouma’s potential move to Anfield, with the Merseyside giants even reportedly reaching an agreement with the 25-year-old over a potential January swoop.
Robinson, though, believes that the Malian international might not be a prudent move. “Does Bissouma fit the bill for Klopp? I’m not so sure. They haven’t got a lot of money to spend, we saw that in the transfer window just gone,” he told Football Insider.
“Wijnaldum played such a big part for them last season so naturally he will be missed. They are light in that area now so I do expect them to bring in another body in that position whether it be in January or next summer. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool make moves in January,” he added.
Robinson, who had featured in 375 Premier League matches during his career while winning 41 caps for the England national team went on to suggest Youri Tielemans as a more viable target, stating, “I think Tielemans would be a better option for Liverpool than Bissouma”
Liverpool have been incidentally linked with a move for Youri Tielemans this month, but the Reds are expected to face stiff competition from league rivals Manchester United. Not to mention, the Leicester City star is expected to cost a fortune as well, and it appears Jurgen Klopp’s side may end up settling for Bissouma, who is already enjoying a stellar start to the campaign with Brighton.
