La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a summer move for 26-year-old Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid once again, this time over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants have three central midfielders on their wishlist and could sign one ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Lazio from KRC Genk in August 2015. Over the last six and a half years, the Serb has come leaps and bounds, becoming a key figure for club and country.
To date, the 26-year-old has made 279 appearances for Lazio, chipping in with 55 goals and 47 assists in the process. Milinkovic-Savic’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.
The interest from Real Madrid stems from the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Isco and Dani Ceballos. The two Spanish midfielders are likely to depart the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window, thereby creating the need to fetch a replacement.
In addition, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are approaching the final years of their glittering careers and will need to start getting phased out sooner or later. As a result, Real Madrid will have to enter the market for a central midfielder in the summer transfer window, with Florian Neuhaus one of the players on their radar.
In addition to Neuhaus, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Youri Tielemans have also become key targets for Real Madrid.
