Real Madrid have reportedly registered interest in Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney, as the Spanish giants look for defensive reinforcements.
A recent report from El Espanol has offered an update on Real Madrid’s policy in the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants are in the market for a new left-back as they prepare for life without Marcelo.
In an attempt to replace the Brazilian, Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on Kieran Tierney. The Arsenal defender is rated highly by Los Blancos, having enjoyed some success at the Emirates since joining the club in 2019. His current deal expires in 2026, but with Real Madrid on the prowl, he could leave the club sooner.
A left-back by trade, Tierney has established himself as one of the leaders in Mikel Arteta’s setup in recent years. He has racked up 81 competitive appearances for Arsenal, impressive the onlookers with his composure, grit and leadership at the back.
Real Madrid are prepared to make an attempt to sign the former Celtic starlet next summer as they look to replace Marcelo. The experienced Brazilian’s current deal at the club expires at the end of the season, with the Spanish giants unlikely to renew his contract. Marcelo’s potential exit leaves Ferland Mendy as the only recognised left-back in the team.
David Alaba can operate at left-back, but the Austrian international is largely considered as a central defender by Carlo Ancelotti, whereas the Real Madrid manager has frozen youth player Miguel Gutierrez from first-team action. The youngster is likely to depart the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season, amid interest from Tottenham, Chelsea and curiously, Arsenal.
It will be interesting to see if Los Blancos can work out a potential swap deal with Arsenal involving Gutierrez and Tierney. However, the Gunners are unlikely to offload one of their star players, especially at a time when Mikel Arteta has been served with his favourite players and are gunning for the top four spots in the Premier League.
It could ultimately prompt Real Madrid to shift their sights to other alternatives. Aside from Tierney, the Merengues have been linked with a move for Valencia captain Jose Gaya while Rayo Vallecano’s emerging star Fran Garcia could be a more cost-effective alternative for Real Madrid.
