Newcastle United are tipped to beat the likes of Tottenham for Sven Botman, with the defender said to be available in the summer.
According to Pete O’Rourke, as reported by GiveMeSport, Newcastle United are reported to have the upper hand over other suitors if Sven Botman becomes available in the summer. Tottenham are involved in the chase as well but may fall short if the Magpies come in with an offer again.
In January, Sven Botman gathered plenty of headlines as the defender was linked with a move away from Lille. Newcastle United were heavily linked with the centre-back during the window, although the French giants took a firm stance and never entertained discussions from the Magpies.
His top performances for Lille caught the eye of many teams, although the French giants did not want to lose him at a crucial juncture of their season.
A summer move, though, could be a real possibility, depending on the level of offers Lille get for the defender. Newcastle United are expected to revisit the French side with a fresh bid after the season, although they will have to offer significant terms to prise the centre-back away from Les Dogues.
The Magpies certainly have the financial muscle to pull off a big move for the Dutchman, although they might end up facing significant competition for the Lille star. Tottenham have seemingly entered the race recently, as Antonio Conte keeps an eye on players to improve his backline.
Batman’s style certainly suits a back three or back four, as he is adaptable. He could become a leader in Conte’s team alongside Cristian Romero, forming a solid central defensive partnership. However, their biggest threat for the Lille star is the competition from Newcastle.
The Magpies are tipped to use their financial firepower to oust any significant competition coming their way for Botman. While they were keen in the January window. But, as mentioned earlier, the move did not materialise as Lille were adamant in keeping hold of the valuable Dutchman.
Tottenham might struggle to match Newcastle’s ability to pay a huge fee and bumper salary for Botman. The north London side may have to look elsewhere at alternatives to find a viable new central defender.
