Ousmane Dembele has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain, leaving them leading the race to sign the Barcelona forward.
According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Ousmane Dembele’s next destination could be Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 heavyweights lead the race to sign the Barcelona after reaching a verbal agreement with him, leaving Chelsea, Manchester United and other suitors behind.
Ousmane Dembele has long been heralded as one of the most promising young attackers in the game. But since joining Barcelona four and a half years ago for a nine-figure sum, the 24-year-old has failed to deliver on the promise, with a spate of injuries blighting his progress enormously.
The French international has amassed 31 goals and 23 assists in 129 appearances for Barcelona to date. But his stint with the Blaugrana is inching towards an unceremonious end after the end of contract renewal talks. With neither party willing to compromise, they reached a point of no return a few days ago, with Barcelona eager to offload Dembele this month instead of letting him leave for free in the summer.
Since the announcement by Mateu Alemany, several high profile clubs across Europe have been heavily linked with Dembele. And for a long time, it seemed like the Barcelona forward was destined to join a Premier League club, especially after Arsenal and Tottenham entered the race to sign him this past weekend. But it looks like Dembele’s next destination will be PSG.
The French giants have been hot on the trail of the French attacker for a long time, and the two parties have been in talks over a possible move. Dembele has now reached a verbal agreement with PSG over a deadline day move from Barcelona.
Ironically, after being heralded as a long-term replacement for Neymar in 2017, the 24-year-old looks set to join the player he succeeded at Barcelona, albeit at PSG. Dembele’s arrival will help PSG bring the average age of their attacking unit considerably down, considering Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria are in their thirties.
PSG and Barcelona now need to sort out the fine details of a late move, with transfer fee likely to be the biggest sticking factor for the two clubs. So, there is a window of opportunity for Dembele’s other suitors to swoop in and prise him away from Barcelona, although Les Parisiens remain in the lead for now.
