Premier League giants Liverpool have reportedly submitted a £5 million offer to sign Fulham’s in-demand youngster Fabio Carvalho.
According to The Times journalist Paul Joyce, Liverpool are set for further action in the transfer market as they set their sights on a late swoop for Fabio Carvalho. The Merseyside giants have already tabled a £5 million offer for the Fulham youngster, hoping to wrap up a deal before Monday’s deadline.
Carvalho’s current deal at Fulham expires at the end of the season, effectively making him a free agent in the summer. However, with multiple clubs, including FC Barcelona, interested in securing his services, Liverpool are hoping to fend off the competition by making a move early.
The Reds are also aware of the fact that Fulham are not determined to sanction the sale of Carvalho this month, as it could disrupt their chances of gaining promotion back to the top-flight next season. As a result, they are prepared to offer the Cottagers the opportunity to retain his services on loan, with the player asked to join the Anfield camp in the summer.
The proposal could prove to be a tempting one for Fulham, who can bag £5 million as well as keep hold of their star attacker for the remainder of the campaign. The Londoners are currently doing well for themselves, leading the Championship table with 58 points, so an early financial boost could help Marco Silva plan for the season ahead.
Formerly of the Benfica youth academy, Fabio Carvalho has been one of the protagonists in Fulham’s excellent promotion charge this season. In just 18 league appearances, the attacker has been involved in 11 goals. His productivity in front of goal, coupled with his attacking combination alongside Aleksandar Mitrovic and Harry Wilson, has added a new dimension to the Fulham frontline.
It has also attracted the interest of several top clubs across Europe, with Liverpool being no exception. After recently bagging Luis Diaz from FC Porto, it appears Jurgen Klopp is keen on further strengthening his attacking unit by bringing in someone like Fabio Carvalho next summer.
The Portuguese starlet could prove to be an ideal answer to the club’s number ten problem, especially amid the uncertainty surrounding the future of Naby Keita. The former RB Leipzig star has struggled with injuries at Anfield and could leave the club in the summer amid interest from West Ham United and Barcelona.
While Carvalho might not be a central midfielder by trade, his ability to offer the creativity in the final third should ultimately add more tactical versatility at the disposal at Klopp next season, as he looks to build the core the future of the Liverpool frontline.
