Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski but face competition from Italian bigwigs Juventus.
According to a report from El Nacional, Real Madrid will have to battle it out with Serie A giants Juventus for the signing of Bayern Munich goal machine Robert Lewandowski in the summer.
One of the best strikers in modern football, Lewandowski, has enjoyed a sensational stint with Bayern Munich since joining them from rivals Borussia Dortmund in 2014. To date, the 33-year-old has produced a mind-boggling 323 goals from just 353 appearances for Die Roten while registering 68 assists as well.
Lewandowski has won the Bundesliga title every season he has been with the Bavarian giants while he also won the UEFA Champions League with the club in 2019/20. Having won everything with Bayern, the Poland captain has his heart set on an exit in the summer when he will be entering the final year of his contract with the German champions.
Real Madrid have emerged as one of the most ardent suitors for the 33-year-old striker. Los Blancos are looking to bolster their attacking firepower in the summer and are well-positioned to complete the signing of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. However, Florentino Perez and Carlo Ancelotti remain keen on adding another centre-forward to their midst.
Links to Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland continue to do the rounds. But the report mentioned above claims that the Spanish capital outfit would prefer to sign Lewandowski instead as the 33-year-old would cost much less, and Ancelotti believes that he would be a much more compatible option along with the likes of Vinicius Junior, Karim Benzema and Mbappe, once he arrives.
However, Los Merengues will have to stave off competition from Serie A giants Juventus to capture the services of the former Lech Poznan hitman. The Bianconeri are struggling with a lack of goals this season, having let go of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer transfer window without bringing in an able replacement.
Alvaro Morata has endured a massive nosedive in form, while Moise Kean has also struggled. With Paulo Dybala also not hitting the target consistently enough, Massimiliano Allegri & co. want a prolific goalscorer in the summer. A move for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic has been touted for some time, but it seems like the Old Lady have their sights set on Lewandowski.
However, for Juventus to stand a chance of signing the Bayern Munich superstar, they will need to ascertain qualification for the Champions League next season. They are currently seventh in the Serie A standings, eight points off of fourth-placed Napoli. With Real Madrid looking on the course to lift the La Liga title and Lewandowski’s past association with Ancelotti, they might have an edge in this chase.
