Barcelona are reportedly willing to listen to offers for 29-year-old goalkeeping ace Marc-Andre ter Stegen next summer.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Barcelona are prepared to cash in on Marc-Andre ter Stegen following another disastrous performance. The Catalan giants are eyeing Andre Onana as a long-term replacement for the 29-year-old goalkeeping ace.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen joined Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach in July 2014 and has since come leaps and bounds. For years, the German international has been a pivotal figure for the Blaugrana, once even being as key a player for the club as Lionel Messi. However, his form has been on the wane in the past year, with things going from bad to worse this season.
To date, the 29-year-old has made 297 appearances for Barcelona, keeping 120 clean sheets in the process. However, ter Stegen’s poor form has left Barcelona frustrated, with the Catalan giants now weighing up the prospect of cashing in on him in the summer transfer window next year.
The latest in a string of disastrous performances came in Barcelona’s 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, with his tame effort to stop Leroy Sane’s long-range effort leaving a lot to be desired.
With his performance levels dropping drastically, the La Liga heavyweights have taken a definitive call on his future and will listen to offers for the 29-year-old goalkeeping ace. Such a decision will also help them go a long way in balancing their books, as a shot-stopper like ter Stegen could fetch a handsome sum.
The German international does not have any shortage of suitors, with Newcastle United at the front of the queue. However, there have been suggestions that ter Stegen has no intention of joining the Magpies. Nevertheless, it is expected that several other clubs will lodge offers to prise him away from Barcelona.
