Transfer News: Brighton interested in Joe Rodon

Joe Rodon could reportedly be set for a January exit from Tottenham Hotspur, with Brighton & Hove Albion interested in his services.

A recent report from The Times has offered an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer policy. It appears the North London giants are expected to offload multiple players in the upcoming January transfer window, as new coach Antonio Conte looks to reshape the squad after coming in as a replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo.

One of the players likely to leave the club next month is Joe Rodon. The Welsh defender has already become the subject of interest for Brighton & Hove Albion, and it is only a matter of time before he waves goodbye to his fans from North London.

Formerly of Swansea City, Rodon has had a disappointing spell at Tottenham since joining the club last summer. He was initially brought in as a potential long-term replacement for Jan Vertonghen. But the young defender never really managed to make an impact in the senior team, featuring in only 12 league matches in his debut season.

The situation has gotten worse in the new season despite the departure of Toby Alderweireld, with the Welshman featuring in just one game so far. His lack of game-time has now driven in speculations over his long-term future at the club.

The rumours have been fuelled by recent reports that suggest the Lilywhites are in the market for a new defender. Tottenham have already been linked with a move for Manchester United’s Eric Bailly, as Conte looks to shore up his options in defence. The potential addition of a new defender in January could seal the fate of Rodon, and that is where Brighton & Hove Albion come into the fray.

After failing to sign a proper replacement for Ben White in the summer, it seems Brighton head coach Graham Potter is looking for reinforcements next month. Rodon, in that regard, fits the bill well due to his technical quality and the tactical versatility he brings to the table.

The 24-year-old might not have had much success during his time at Tottenham, but he certainly does have the potential to become an asset for Brighton. More importantly, the Spurs defender could be available for a cut-price fee given his struggles at the club, making him a shrewd option for Potter.
