Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly emerged as a potential destination for Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
A recent report from El Nacional has dropped a bombshell regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future. The Manchester United superstar is currently on a two-year contract at Old Trafford, having only rejoined the club in the summer. However, it appears his long-term future in England could be in doubt following the appointment of Ralf Rangnick.
As a result, Ronaldo’s super-agent, Jorge Mendes, has recently been in contact with Paris Saint-Germain, offering them the opportunity to snap up the Portuguese next summer, in case he falls out of favour at Rangnick. Mendes believes Ronaldo can be an ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is likely to join Real Madrid next season.
After putting an end to his spell at Juventus, Ronaldo stole the headlines when he completed his flowery return to Manchester United. An excellent start to the campaign, including a brace against Newcastle United in his first match, led many to believe that he was the missing link in the United setup.
However, after three months, Ronaldo’s stock is starting to take a downward trajectory at Old Trafford. The forward has scored only three goals in his last ten league appearances, which has coincided with the club’s lack of form and the subsequent departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Many experts feel that the Portuguese’s presence in the final third has made United much less coherent in regards to their attacking capacity.
But that could change under new interim coach Ralf Rangnick. Formerly of Schalke and RB Leipzig, the German is a stringent, no-nonsense trainer who believes in the hard-working footballing philosophy followed by the likes of Jurgen Klopp. He also favours working around young players and has already targeted Christopher Nknuku even before his official arrival at Old Trafford.
Rangnick’s presence in the Manchester United camp could spell trouble for Cristiano Ronaldo. The German can be a difficult character to work with, especially for the players who do not fit into his setup. It appears Jorge Mendes has already taken note of that and is prepared to offer his super-client to PSG.
It is believed that the Portuguese agent wants to unite Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the same squad. However, PSG are yet to respond to the offer, and there is no indication that they will, given the player’s age and the fact that he could demand a hefty wage packet, making it almost impossible to keep him, Messi and Neymar in the same team.
