Barcelona have reportedly been handed a major boost in pursuit of Bryan Gil, with Tottenham ready to deal with them for the Spanish attacker.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is willing to offload Bryan Gil in the January transfer window amid interest from Barcelona. Such a development has come as a major boost for the Blaugrana.
Bryan Gil joined Tottenham Hotspur from Sevilla in the summer transfer window this year after being chased by some of the biggest clubs in Europe. However, the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has not panned out as envisioned thus far, with the 20-year-old yet to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at the club.
To date, Gil has started only eight of the 21 games that Tottenham have played this season, with none of those coming in the Premier League. However, despite only making gradual progress at the north London club, the Spanish attacker’s stock has not fallen one bit, with Barcelona reportedly keen on signing him.
Barcelona held an interest in landing Gil when he was still at Sevilla back in the summer before joining Tottenham instead. The eagerness to sign him has not waned since, especially with the Blaugrana being forced to enter the market for an attacking reinforcement in the January transfer window.
While it will behove Barcelona to sign a striker in the wake of Sergio Aguero’s indefinite absence due to a heart condition, they also require a wide attacker. That is because Ansu Fati is yet to regain full fitness, while Ousmane Dembele’s injury woes are showing no signs of letting up.
In addition, Memphis Depay’s form has been shaky of late, which is why the Catalan giants have been eyeing several wingers like Ferran Torres, Raheem Sterling and Dani Olmo. However, signing the players mentioned will be a tall order for Barcelona, considering their price tags might be unaffordable. That is why Gil is a viable target for Barcelona.
According to recent reports, Barcelona are only likely to sign Gil on a loan deal in January. And now, the La Liga heavyweights have been handed a major boost in pursuit of the Spaniard, with Antonio Conte not opposed to the idea of letting him leave. So, it remains to be seen if Barcelona can firm up their interest in the coming weeks before launching the offensive for Gil in January.
