Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on signing Barcelona prodigy Pedri in a mega-money deal and willing to quadruple his wages.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Pedri is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich over a possible move in the January transfer window. The Bavarian giants will attempt to sign the Barcelona prodigy next summer if they cannot sign him this winter. They are also ready to quadruple his wages.
Pedri has taken no time in establishing himself as a key figure for Barcelona. The 18-year-old made his first-team debut for the Blaugrana at the onset of the 2020/21 season and quickly became a regular feature under Ronald Koeman, playing almost every game for the club in his maiden campaign.
In addition, the teenage prodigy also featured prominently for Spain all the way to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. After playing nearly 70 games for club and country in a year, Pedri inevitable broke down and has featured just four times for Barcelona this term as a result.
However, there is no denying that the Spanish international is a part of the long-term core for Barcelona and even committed his future to the club recently. But, fresh from becoming the first Barcelona player to win the Golden Boy award since Lionel Messi, Pedri is attracting interest from Bayern Munich.
Pedri is not the only Barcelona midfielder on Bayern Munich’s radar. The Bundesliga champions are also keen on signing Frenkie de Jong. However, it looks like Pedri, in particular, has emerged as a key target for Bayern.
The interest in the 18-year-old does make sense, considering he could be the long-term successor for Thomas Muller at the Allianz Arena. And so, the Bavarian giants are prepared to shatter their club record transfer outlay – an €80 million transfer fee to sign Lucas Hernandez – to prise Pedri away from Barcelona.
While Bayern would prefer signing Pedri in the January transfer window, they are prepared to wait till the summer to launch the offensive. In addition, the German heavyweights are ready to offer a bumper contract to the teenage prodigy, who will have the chance to quadruple the wages he currently earns at Barcelona.
However, according to AS, Pedri is content at Barcelona and wishes to continue his upward trajectory at Camp Nou. But, an attractive offer could tempt the Blaugrana to cash in on the Spanish international, and it will be interesting to see if that indeed proves to be the case.
