Barcelona have reportedly made an enquiry over the possibility of signing Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman in the January transfer window.
According to a report from SPORT, La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have their sights set on a January swoop for Bayern Munich attacker Kingsley Coman and have asked about a potential move for the Frenchman.
Coman has been with Bayern Munich since 2015, when he arrived on a two-year loan deal from Juventus. The 25-year-old’s transfer was made permanent in 2017, and he has since tasted a lot of success with the Bavarian giants, although he has not always been a regular starter in the side.
Indeed, Coman had to share game-time with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery early in his tenure at the Allianz Arena, while the French international has found himself behind Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry in the pecking order in the current season under new boss Julian Nagelsmann. As a result, he has been limited to just two starts in the Bundesliga in the 2021/22 term.
Coman’s contract with Die Roten runs out in the summer of 2023. While the club have tabled a new offer, the forward is reluctant to sign as he is frustrated with the lack of minutes and wishes to secure a move away. This situation has seemingly alerted Barcelona, who are in the market for a new winger.
The Catalans, as per the report, were interested in Coman back in the summer as well. However, Bayern Munich had knocked back their approach. But, given his current situation, Barcelona have once again lodged an enquiry over the potential availability of the 25-year-old former PSG ace ahead of the January transfer window.
The Blaugrana are in desperate need of a new forward heading into the second half of the season as they have been hit hard by injuries to key personnel. Ansu Fati has been struggling with niggling issues since returning to action after almost a year out with a serious knee injury. Ousmane Dembele also continues to be plagued by injury problems, limiting him to just one appearance this term.
With Yusuf Demir failing to deliver on the initial promise that he had shown, new manager Xavi Hernandez intends to add another winger to his roster in the winter transfer window. A move for Raheem Sterling has been mooted quite strongly, while recent reports have also credited Barcelona with interest in Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo.
However, Coman also remains a target for the Catalan giants. Bayern, for their part, want to tie him down to a new deal but would be open to offers if he continues to refuse to sign a new contract. But given their financial situation, Barcelona cannot make an offer to purchase him permanently in January and can only afford to sign him on loan. So, it remains to be seen if the Blaugrana can get their man in the upcoming window.
