Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are reportedly among the clubs keen on signing 21-year-old Argentine international Julian Alvarez.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, the race to sign Julian Alvarez is heating up with every passing week. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are among the clubs vying for the signature of the 21-year-old Argentine international, who AC Milan and Juventus are also courting.
Julian Alvarez is a player who has been highly rated for quite some time now, with the player previously even having trials with Boca Juniors and Real Madrid. The young striker has been with his current club River Plate for over half a decade and broke into their first-team setup aged just 18.
Since then, the 21-year-old has come leaps and bounds and is currently a mainstay in attack for the Argentine giants. The ongoing campaign has been strong for Alvarez, who has 19 goals and 13 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. His progress has also helped the youngster make his bow for Argentina earlier this year.
At the same time, Alvarez has also popped up on the radars of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid being his prominent suitors.
The interest from Real Madrid is understandable, even though Erling Haaland is their priority to be the long-term solution as the first team’s centre-forward. Indeed, the intense competition for the Borussia Dortmund striker means it is far from guaranteed that the Merengues will sign him next summer.
As a result, it will be prudent of Real Madrid to identify alternatives for Haaland, with a succession plan for Karim Benzema being imperative. To that end, Alvarez is a viable target for Los Blancos, who face stiff competition from local rivals Atletico Madrid in pursuit of the 21-year-old.
Like Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid need to be on the lookout for a young striker, with Luis Suarez approaching the end of his glittering career. With that in mind, the defending La Liga champions have been linked with Mohamed-Ali Cho, Karim Adeyemi and Alexandre Lacazette, with Alvarez also an option worth considering.
Apart from Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus are also keen on signing the Argentine international, with the two Serie A giants even submitting enquiries for him. So, with Alvarez quickly starting to become a highly sought-after player in the transfer market, it will be interesting to see if he forays into Europe anytime soon.
