Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Abdou Diallo, with reports pointing towards a possible offer in the January window.
According to Foot Mercato, Newcastle United are showing an interest in Abdou Diallo. The wealthy Premier League side could make an offer to Paris Saint-Germain in January to acquire their versatile defender.
Newcastle United are drawing up plans to reinforce their playing squad in the January window. From Amanda Staveley’s recent comments, it’s clear that new manager Eddie Howe will have funds available at his disposal to strengthen their key areas on the pitch, with the target firmly set at avoiding relegation.
The Magpies remain winless after eleven Premier League games and sit in the 19th spot on the table, with only a superior goal difference separating them from Norwich. Their fixtures list between now and 31st December includes games against some in-form top-six sides, and defeats in those games will put them in a difficult spot.
If their performances worsen before the January window, the Magpies might find themselves in a position of no return, meaning their efforts in the next window might become pointless. Yet, under Howe, they retain hope of turning their form around and gaining momentum before strengthening the squad with quality additions.
Howe’s priority is understandably to reinforce his backline, with several defensive players linked recently. While a deal for James Tarkowski seems doubtful, after Burnley reportedly are ready to block a move to aid their own relegation battle, Newcastle will look at other potential targets in the window.
Nathan Ake has also been linked recently while the latest name on the list is PSG defender Abdou Diallo. The 25-year-old former Borussia Dortmund star is attracting interest from the Magpies, who could make a sizeable offer to sign him from the Paris based club when the transfer window opens.
Diallo has been used sporadically after the arrival of Nuno Mendes in the summer. The versatile star offers options either at left-back or left-sided centre-back. He could be viewed as a valuable addition by Howe in a bid to avoid relegation at the end of the campaign.
With a contract with PSG lasting until 2024, the French club could demand a significant fee from Newcastle, as they might look to sell the 25-year-old Senegalese international. As things stand, the Parisians have enough cover in the area for the season. He could be a smart addition to this Newcastle side that looks distorted in defence. Howe might look at alternatives if Diallo decides against a move, but an attractive offer could help lure him to the north of England.
