Real Madrid are reportedly set to rekindle their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe in the January transfer window.
According to Alberto Pereiro via Radioestadio Noche on Twitter, Spanish giants Real Madrid will look to make a new offer for Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe in the January transfer window.
The Frenchman is one of the best young players in world football and is already a superstar of gigantic proportions. His contract at the Parisian outfit runs out next summer, and he is yet to commit his future to the club.
Real Madrid are currently in a state of refit and are rebuilding. They appear to have their eyes on free agents and have identified a slew of players to target. Apart from Mbappe, the Merengues are also targeting Antonio Rudiger and Paul Pogba. Both players are out of contract next summer, just like Mbappe.
Mbappe has proven himself to be a world-class player over the years and does not shy away from performing at the highest level. He could be the focal point around who the Real Madrid can rebuild a championship-winning side.
As things stand, Karim Benzema remains the club’s ace striker. However, he is not getting any younger and will need to be replaced soon. More so, the likes of Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale have not met expectations and could be cashed in on in the upcoming windows. This could very well aid Real Madrid’s chances of putting an acceptable offer for Mbappe in January.
Florentino Perez signed French wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga in the summer. With Pogba and Mbappe now on their radar, Los Blancos may be looking at a distinct French influence in their ranks.
More so, securing Mbappe would also be a statement of sorts. Real Madrid have not just suffered financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic but also have fallen down the pecking order when it comes to contending for major honours. Signing Mbappe would remind the footballing world that despite the recent troubles, they remain a prime destination.
Real Madrid failed with a bid of €170 million base fee plus €10 million in bonuses earlier this summer. With Mbappe’s contract set to run out next summer, it remains to be seen if PSG will accept a lower fee for him in January rather than lose him for free.
However, it will come as a surprise if PSG allow their star man to move on without a fight. Mbappe is among the players who can potentially take over the moniker of the world’s best player in the years to come. Whether he will be keen to become the face of a new-look Real Madrid side remains to be seen.
