Transfer News: Juventus eye January swoop for Donny van de Beek

Italian giants Juventus are reportedly eyeing a January move for out-of-favour Manchester United star Donny van de Beek.

According to Calcio Mercato, Serie A giants Juventus are eyeing a move for Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Dutch international joined the Red Devils during the summer of 2020. While he scored on his debut and showed off his ability early on, it has done little to earn him Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s favour.

Van de Beek has made just 41 appearances so far, of which only 21 have come as a starter. He has so far had to bide the majority of his time on the bench while being brought on as a substitute to make little impact.

The 24-year-old has played just 154 minutes this season over five games. Van de Beek’s chances of making it at Old Trafford appear remote, and it remains to be seen if he will seek a fresh start elsewhere.

One team keen on his services is Juventus. The Italian giants are in a state of rebuilding at the moment and appear to be in a state of limbo. Van de Beek’s talents and ability to function as a box-to-box midfielder seem to endear him to the Bianconeri. They believe he will supplement the players already at the club and add to their squad in a key position.

If a move does take place, the Dutchman will join international compatriot and former Ajax Amsterdam teammate Matthijs de Ligt at the Allianz Stadium. Van de Beek cost United an impressive €40 million to sign a little over a year ago. An asking price anywhere close to that amount could make a deal unfeasible for Juventus. It would appear that the Serie A side need to sell before they can buy. Unless that happens, the chances of him making a move to Italy remains unlikely.

The Dutch international time and again showed off his excellent ability on the ball while at Ajax. The fact that he has not been given a fair chance at United begs why he was even signed in the first place. Neither has Solskjaer shown the aptitude to deploy the 24-year-old right nor given him an extended set of games to find his feet.

Moving to the comparatively slower Italian league could be the fresh start he seeks. Whether that happens remains to be seen. Manchester United star Paul Pogba suffered an injury while training with France and could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Whether this can help Van de Beek rekindle his future at Old Trafford will be interesting to see. The Dutchman changed agents recently and appears to be ready to call time on his stint at the Theatre of Dreams. Just what the future holds for his remains to be seen. However, the move to United can be best described as a bust.
