Arsenal are reportedly prepared to step up their pursuit of 21-year-old Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is also a target for Juventus.
According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are eyeing a January move for Dusan Vlahovic. The Fiorentina striker has emerged as a top target for Mikel Arteta as he seeks to reinforce his options in attack. The club is even weighing up a suitable offer in an attempt to secure the 21-year-old’s services in the winter market.
Vlahovic, though, intends to wait until the end of the season before making the next step in his career. Along with Arsenal, Juventus are interested in him as well, although the Bianconeri are weighing up potential alternatives, including Manchester United outcast Anthony Martial.
Arsenal’s pursuit of the Serbian forward stems from the club’s lack of productivity under Arteta. Although the Gunners are currently flying high, with eight wins in their last six matches, none of their forwards has really managed to get going.
Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored just four goals while fellow striker Alexandre Lacazette faces an uncertain future at the Emirates. The Frenchman has been recently linked with a shock move to Manchester City, although West Ham United and Newcastle United are also interested.
Neither of the two young strikers in Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun has made an impression either, thus accentuating the need for a new striker who can offer the much-needed spark going forward for Arsenal.
Vlahovic fits the bill well due to his immense physical and aerial presence inside the box, coupled with his goalscoring prowess. Standing at 1.90m, the Serbian international has netted 29 goals in Serie A since the start of last season, eight of which have come in the ongoing 2021/22 campaign.
The 21-year-old can prove to be the target man Arsenal so desperately require if they are to complement their excellent creative department, led by emerging stars like Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka.
Arsenal’s upward trend in the Premier League table could certainly make them an appealing destination for Vlahovic. But they are not the only club chasing the Serbian striker, who is courted by arch-rivals Tottenham. Reigning English champions Manchester City are reportedly considering a January swoop for the youngster as well, giving the player a host of options at his disposal.
