Tottenham are interested in Benoit Badiashile from Monaco to shore up their defensive ranks in the January window.
According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are keen on Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile and they could be preparing to make an offer in the January window.
Tottenham are set to build their squad to new manager Antonio Conte’s specifications and could start the proceedings in January. While their summer transfer business was modest, they did bring in defensive players such as Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal. However, Conte needs specific players in central defence as he likes to play with a back three.
So far, their options are restricted to Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier, but they have been underwhelming. Joe Rodon is another option, but he played rarely under Nuno Espirito Santo since the season began and is not expected to star under Conte. Those factors point towards a foray into the January window to bring in the right option to shore up their defence.
Conte might ideally want someone from his former club Inter Milan with Stefan de Vrij linked with a move to north London. At the same time, they have also been connected with other defensive stars from Serie A.
Alessandro Bastoni is another Inter player linked recently with the club since the appointment of Conte. A new name has emerged on the radar, with Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile emerging as a possible target for Tottenham. The central defender has proven himself at the French side and grown into a first-team regular, although they could be open to selling him should a sizeable offer arrive.
Despite his immense presence at the heart of the Monaco backline, the club still languish in tenth place on the Ligue 1 table. Badiashile has a contract until 2024, which could prompt Tottenham to offer terms in the January window, although Monaco might ask for a considerable transfer fee.
Manchester United saw a bid of €25 million rejected in the summer of 2020, with Monaco seeking a lot more. Since then, his stock has only risen, meaning the French side could demand a higher fee considering current circumstances and Spurs’ recent outlay of around €50 million on Romero.
Badiashile could play on either side of the central defence, and with his height, he provides an imposing presence at the back. At 20 years old, the defender has plenty of promise for the future. It remains to be seen if Tottenham are the only interested party or if more clubs come in as we approach January.
