Tottenham have received a boost in their pursuit of Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic, as the 21-year-old is more likely to move abroad than join a club in Italy.
According to a report from Italian publication La Nazione, Tottenham have been handed a major boost in the race to sign Fiorentina’s Serbian marksman Dusan Vlahovic, who is also a transfer target for Juventus.
The 21-year-old has grown into one of the most sought-after centre-forwards in Europe after enjoying a spectacular 2020/21 campaign during which he scored 21 goals from 37 Serie A games. Vlahovic has been in the same vein of form in the current season, having found the back of the net ten times in 12 matches across all competitions.
Tottenham Hotspur had been hot on his trails since the summer transfer window, as superstar Harry Kane was heavily linked with an exit. Even though the England captain did not get his desired move away to Manchester City, his future at the north London club continues to be uncertain following a lacklustre start to the new season.
Tottenham, as a result, have continued to keep tabs on Vlahovic and have made him one of their priority targets for the next year. Even if Kane does not leave, the Lilywhites do not have a backup for the 28-year-old on the books, with teenager Dane Scarlett the only other natural No. 9 available on the roster. So, the interest in Vlahovic makes a lot of sense from Spurs’ perspective.
Tottenham, though, are set to face fierce competition in their pursuit of the Serbian international. Serie A heavyweights Juventus are keen on signing the 21-year-old to fill the Cristiano Ronaldo-shaped void left at the club following the Portuguese talisman’s summer switch to Manchester United.
While Paulo Dybala has stepped up his game this term, Alvaro Morata hasn’t been delivering the goods consistently. With Dejan Kulusevski not favoured by manager Massimiliano Allegri and Moise Kean yet to find his feet after returning to Turin, the Bianconeri could certainly do with a centre-forward of Vlahovic’s quality and potential.
However, as per the report mentioned above, Fiorentina are unwilling to sell their prized asset to a Serie A rival and would prefer to see him join a club outside Italy. Furthermore, it also claims that Juventus would find it difficult to sign the striker due to their difficult financial situation, which hands Tottenham a major advantage in their pursuit of Vlahovic.
Any move, however, would likely have to wait till the summer. Both Fiorentina and their star striker agree that a move at the end of the season would be more beneficial for both parties. For now, Vlahovic’s exit from Florence looks a certainty, and Tottenham may have an advantage, although they will also need to compete with Manchester City for his signing.
