Crystal Palace have reportedly registered an interest in signing Anthony Martial in the January window, with Manchester United demanding €40 million.
According to a report from Fichajes, Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has emerged as a transfer target for Crystal Palace ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
Martial has been with Manchester United since 2015 when he arrived from AS Monaco but has failed to reach the heights expected of him. Apart from a couple of seasons when he finished as club top-scorer, the 25-year-old has struggled to perform on a consistent basis, leading to criticism from several quarters.
After a disappointing last season, the Frenchman has fallen down the pecking order behind the likes of Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood. Even when given a chance, Martial has failed to make the desired impact, which has cast doubts over his future at Old Trafford.
While there were rumours of a departure in the summer, Manchester United decided to hold on to him for another year and give him another shot. But with game-time not forthcoming, the Frenchman may look to secure a move elsewhere in order to play regularly and enhance his chances of making it to the World Cup squad next year.
There has been interest in the 25-year-old from Newcastle United, while the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move recently. Now, another London club in the form of Crystal Palace have entered the fray for the signing of the forward, the report claims.
Crystal Palace are showing signs of progression under new manager Patrick Vieira but are lacking a quality goalscorer at the top to take the step to the next level. Odsonne Edouard has started positively after his summer switch from Celtic but has lacked the requisite support with Christian Benteke and Jordan Ayew not delivering the goods in front of goal on a consistent basis.
As a result, manager Vieira is keen on adding another striker to the roster and Martial is seen as an ideal fit due to his technical ability, pace and mobility. The report adds that Manchester United are likely to demand around €40 million for their forward and it remains to be seen if Palace are willing to stump up such a figure come January or in the summer at the end of the season.
